OUR ALMA MATER

Archbishop Porter Girls' Secondary School (APGSS)

Archbishop Porter Girls’ Secondary School (APGSS) is a distinguished Catholic institution integrated into the Ghana Public Education system. Established under the guidance of the late His Grace Archbishop John Kodwo Amissah, the then Archbishop of Cape Coast, Sekondi, and Takoradi Diocese of the Catholic Church. The school’s foundation stone was laid in August 1965. Just three months later, on November 5, 1965, the first cohort of forty (40) students embarked on their academic and boarding journey.

Nestled on a serene hill in Fijai, Takoradi, within the Western Region, APGSS has earned the nickname “Hill of Tranquility” for its serene and conducive academic environment.

Archbishop Porter Past Students Association (APPSA) was officially inaugurated in 2001 under the leadership of APPSAN Dinah Blankson-Appah.

APPSA CHAPTERS

Projects / Initiatives

Over the past two decades since its inception, APPSA has remained dedicated to these aims and objectives, spearheading numerous developmental projects at APGSS. Recent endeavors include the construction of a dormitory by APPSAN Mrs. Yvonne Nduom, the establishment of an Art Block by APPSA UK, lead by APPSAN Lydia Bannerman, renovations of the sick bay, some dormitories, dining hall, and the provision of water tanks, etc. all undertaken by various Year Groups.

Since 2017, Archbishop Porter Past Students Association (APPSA) has also been providing free health and breast screenings to staff and students of Archbishop Porter Girls' Secondary School (APGSS), the general public and members of Archbishop Porter Past Students Association - APPSANS during APPSA's annual Breast Cancer Awareness Month activities every October across different Chapters and locations.

We are on a continuous learning journey so we provide health, financial and social talks during seminars to members and affiliate alumni.

We extend a warm invitation to all APPSANS, affiliate alumni, well-wishers, and honorary members to join us on this fulfilling journey.
